While You Sleep
Now that the Trump era is effectively over (for now) mainly due to how he handled Covid-19. We now have “Sleepy Joe” in office, who has put the country back to sleep. He gives people that “everything is going to be alright” feeling. After all, if Joe Biden can survive spewing his speeches, after clearly being just removed from his life support- to portray a strong and vibrant president; the rest of the country will be okay.
Can we please get younger presidential figures?
There’s less protesting compared to the summer of 2020 and the country has started reopening. All traditional news ratings are down, which means less “Fake News”. All seems good with the world- well at least in the United States. India and some European countries are still struggling with Covid-19 and the Middle East is still in its perpetual state of conflict.
Even still, to some extent even I found myself “going back to sleep”. Mainly because Trump was such an entertaining figure, for better or worse. Not entertaining enough for me to search for his blog, but entertaining.
Let’s be honest with ourselves, nothing has really fundamentally changed, as Joe Biden said. Maybe for Derek Chauvin (George Floyd’s murderer) things have changed a little.
For all the protesting that has occurred, we haven’t gotten police reform, or better known as “defund the police.”
God, what an idiotic mantra. Sure, I agree with the notion that we need police reform, but that slogan made the issue even more politicized.
After looking at the capital insurrection on January 6, 2021, I now understand there are people dumber than I thought. I’m sure the other side also feels the same way I do, so I can understand how people could really believe that defund the police meant, get rid of the police.
We still are living in a Gilded Age where the rich are getting richer, and the poor are getting poorer. If you go to the West Coast of the United States, particularly Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle — this is especially apparent.
Never mind the fact that there are people becoming millionaires off Dogecoin. Those people already had the expendable income to put into such a risky asset.
The life expectancy has dropped for the 4th year in a row.
Yes, this was happening before the coronavirus.
I feel like people are forgetting that California and Oregon skies during the summer of 2020 were also orange, due to 6 of the largest wildfires in California’s history were raging across 4.3 million acres and over $12 billion in costs. Climate change has not been halted only forgotten about by the masses.
Worst of all is the fact that corporations today rival, if not surpass the government in terms of power. So, all the things that plague society such as wages, the exportation of jobs, exploitation of workers, and even healthcare are all determined by the whims of the ruling elite class.
To make you feel better, at least Big Oil is no longer leading in lobbying spending anymore, so maybe we can finally get an infrastructure bill like the Green New Deal to combat climate change.
Oh wait, we did get an infrastructure bill of $2 trillion in fact, for 10 years. The Covid relief package was for $1.9 trillion for this year alone. We needed at least $10 trillion on infrastructure which currently sits at a grade of D+. According to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) said in its 2017 Infrastructure Report Card we need to invest $4.6 trillion by 2025 to improve this condition.
What makes it frustrating is the fact that infrastructure pays for itself over a 20-year timeframe. Every dollar spent you get a return of $3.70, meaning not only is it a net profit for the government, but all of us. It improves productivity, business and worker opportunities, and quality of life.
I doubt any parent would be satisfied seeing a D+ on their child's report card, so why should we be satisfied with a D+ on infrastructure when it benefits society?
We live in the richest country on the planet, there's no reason why our citizens should be drinking lead water when the issue was made aware of during the Obama presidency.
We cannot even get marijuana federally legalized. In late January, after Gamestop, that was the craze of the stock market, after Joe Biden was inaugurated into office.
While you sleep just remember that everything progressives have been advocating for has yet to pass.
